Since its inception in 1996, Reelsounds has been a creative mainspring for the Chicagoland music scene and beyond.

Founded by Mark “Mouse” Brunner and friends (Home Team), Reelsounds was always to be a critical source of hang and inspiration. Hammer in hand and beer in another, Reelsounds was built out over 10 years to become the premier project studio of the midwest. Around 2003, it was branded to be Reelsounds, and a decade and a half later, the final tape machine broke.

In 2020, Mouse’s family took on the business, and an effort to renovate and make better had begun. Brandon, Mouse’s son, who already had been working in the studio for eight years, led the charge in the design and philosophy behind the improvements. The family decided to center the studio around the community that built it, and expand the facility in a way where it can be enjoyed for decades to come.

The family has since opened the studio to the public at large, and now a whole new gaggle of friends and professionals come to enjoy creative pursuits within the space.

As a not-for-profit operation, we understand that asking anything from music is asking too much. Having said that, we pride ourselves in our ability to maintain a safe, accessible, and intentional space inclusive of any and all creators.
